Diriba Ragae Tumsa

Diriba Ragea Tumsa is currently pursuing his PhD in Curriculum and Instruction at Hawassa University in Ethiopia. He received his B.Ed. in Pedagogical Science from Ethiopia’s Bahir Dar University and his M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from Addis Ababa University. Diriba has experience at many different levels in the education sector. He worked his way up to his current position by first serving as the District Community Skill Training Center Coordinator, Secondary school director, teacher educator at the college of teacher education, and for three years as the executive of the Zone Education Office, which oversees seventeen districts, 643 primary schools, and 74 secondary schools.

Presently, his dissertation focuses on how Indigenous Knowledge is incorporated into contemporary teaching in Ethiopian secondary schools. His broad areas of research interest include decolonizing the educational system, the knowledge economy, freedom of learning and pedagogy, education and sustainable development, and indigenous knowledge.
