Tami Carsillo

As a doctoral candidate in the International Education program at George Mason University, I have adapted my background as a secondary Social Sciences teacher, a Civic Education and Information Specialist for the Virginia General Assembly, and President of the Board of Directors of an NGO for South Sudanese girls’ education into a doctoral program of study that focuses on the interests and intersects of secondary education, action civics, and youth-led peace initiatives. I believe that educational opportunities framed in equity, equality, and indigenous knowledge create spaces for new knowledge, leading to appropriate place-based education curricula and programs.
